Summary;
This study investigated whether a chair massage intervention has an effect on the perceived health of workers. For this purpose a randomized experiment was carried out on 76 office workers.
The intervention group had 16 weeks to receive a chair massage once a week. The control group did not receive any massage.
Chair massage is a pressure point massage of the head, neck, shoulders and arms. At two time points, before and after the massage period the perceived health is measured in both groups.
Perceived health is psychological fatigue, emotional reactions and fatigue during work, burnout, sleep quality and musculature complaints. The results showed that they were significantly reduced in the intervention group mental fatigue and musculo skeletal complaints compared to the control group.
For the other outcome measures, no effects were found. It can be concluded that the intervention appears to have had a positive effect on mental fatigue and musculoskeletal complaints.
